Medical Bill Due Dates are a Scam
You go to the hospital. It’s a traumatic event in itself and then you get hit with all the bills. They are scary. The hospital includes language with those bills that often include:
“Your discount for cash pay expires on [date]?”
“This is your final notice.”
Rest assured, these due dates are their attempt to bully you into paying their egregious, often price gouging, rates.Â
You are free. You no longer live within the rules of the hospital overlords. These bills will not show up on your credit report for a minimum of 12 months. Resist the urge to give into their demands.Â
The fact is, the longer you wait, the better off you are. You can, and most likely will, get a better price then even the “discounted rate” if you are patient.
If you are a CrowdHealth member, don’t pay those bills before letting us take a look. We know what to do to make sure you don’t overpay.
