Health insurance isn’t broken. It’s designed that way.

We built a way out for families who are done funding a system that profits when you’re sick. Watch the 30-minute breakdown on why health insurance fails and what families are doing instead.

“What I love most about CrowdHealth is the freedom. Freedom to choose care that aligns with your values, freedom to work with practitioners who look for root causes instead of quick fixes, freedom to have the birth experience you want, and freedom from the crushing costs of traditional insurance.”

Who CrowdHealth Is For

For people who...
  • Don’t trust big pharma incentives

  • Want control over their healthcare decisions

  • Believe community > corporations

  • Think healthcare should reward staying healthy

  • That community should replace bureaucracy

  • Believe you should know what things cost

  • Want to see any doctor with no networks

  • See that paying $1,500+/mo for insurance they barely use makes no sense

  • Eat organic, prioritize prevention, and live proactively. They don't want to subsidize a broken sick-care system.

Andy Schoonover
Founder & CEO of CrowdHealth

Our Founder’s Story

I'm Andy, the founder of CrowdHealth, and I've seen firsthand the failures of the health insurance system. Years ago, my daughter battled recurring ear infections and a ruptured eardrum. After a necessary, albeit quick, procedure, I was slapped with an $8,000 bill. Our insurance company refused to pay, deeming it "medically unnecessary."

Despite doing everything right, the insurance I had trusted in left us high and dry when we needed it most. That's when I realized the system was broken and decided to create CrowdHealth, a more compassionate and reliable alternative to pay for healthcare.

Traditional health insurance is often impersonal and unreliable, with twisted incentives. At CrowdHealth, we're changing the narrative. We treat our members like family, assisting them on their health journey, and managing their bills at an affordable cost. We're creating a system where the focus is on keeping our members healthy, rather than profiting from their illnesses. Our goal is to redefine the meaning of "healthcare" in our society.

The sad truth is, each year, 250,000 people with insurance declare bankruptcy due to medical bills. It's a clear sign that the existing system isn't working and serves to benefit the pockets of the medical industrial complex. Frustrated with the lack of justifiable reasons, I've stopped seeking answers and decided to build a better solution. And that’s what CrowdHealth is all about.

Case Study:
Member from Dallas, TX

Step 1: Facing Health Expenses

A CrowdHealth member from Dallas, TX was diagnosed with cervical cancer and needed a hysterectomy.

Step 2: Negotiating Costs

The local hospital quoted $48,000 for the procedure. CrowdHealth negotiated the hospital quote down to $9,190.

Step 3: Crowdfunding the Expense

142 members were asked to fund the negotiated expense, with an average crowdfunding cost of $64.71 per member. The contributions were collected and used to cover the member's medical bill.

Better Healthcare without Insurance

The member from Dallas, TX received the necessary medical treatment without the burden of a large bill. The CrowdHealth community came together to support a fellow member, demonstrating the power of community-driven health support.

Examples of How Big Bills Get Paid

Navigating Major Health Issues

Imagine a $500,000 hospital bill from an emergency open heart surgery. The bill first gets negotiated down to a reasonable fair market rate, approximately $150,000, and then gets submitted to the Crowd. 1,111 members give $140 each to meet the need of this medical bill.

Managing Accidents

When Brian breaks his arm mountain biking and faces $5,000 worth of medical bills from the ER, follow up care, and physical therapy, he knows he’s going to pay for the first $500 of care and then he can ask the Crowd for help with the rest. The remaining $4,500 is submitted to the Crowd for crowdfunding and sent directly to Brian who uses the funds to pay his medical bills.

Planning for Scheduled Procedures

For a planned knee replacement, CrowdHealth can help you shop for a high quality, fairly priced provider. Knee Replacement surgery on the free market costs approximately $20,000. This amount, distributed among 140 members, can be submitted to the Crowd for crowdfunding prior to the surgery so you have the funds you need to pay at the time of service.

Navigating Prenatal Care & Childbirth

Lisa and Michael are expecting their first child and just had their very first prenatal visit. While at the visit, their doctor gives them information on their cash-pay Global Fee for all prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care totaling $6,000. When Lisa calls to register with the hospital, she is given a Good Faith Estimate for her delivery totaling another $6,000.  Additional blood work and imaging adds another $1,500 to the total, bringing their maternity costs to $13,500. Lisa and Michael know they will be paying the first $3,000 for their Maternity Member Commitment and will submit the remaining $10,500 to the Crowd for crowdfunding in order to pay the remaining balances.

Don't get stuck paying more for less.
